The possibilities are endless with these bath satchels! I am a bath girl and I LOVE the smell of lavender. Oatmeal is soothing for the skin especially during the summer and spring with skin irritations from allergies and insect bites. The oatmeal is also enriching for moisturizing your skin in the winter. There are many benefits for the oatmeal. The lavender is aromatic and calming. You can actually change this recipe as you like with rose petals, oatmeal, powdered milk, etc. Get creative and always test first before to ensure there are no skin irritations.

One thing to note when going natural is the ability to unlearn the commercial ideas and to let go of perfection. Oatmeal and lavender works well for me so I don't bother to measure. I have made these with rose petals alone and others with oatmeal and powdered milk. Be creative and experiment with wholesome and natural elements. You can always research to find out what natural elements are beneficial for what. That will be another post in the future. For now let's discuss how I made these satchels.

HOW TO MAKE THE SATCHELS:

I started with the supplies as shown in photo 1: oatmeal (old fashion oats work too - I only had quick oats at home); cheese cloth (arts and crafts department); dried lavender flowers (bulk order on amazon since I use lavender quite often); scissors; and small rubber bands.

I start by cutting 6" x 12" strips of double layered cheese cloth as shown in photo 2. Here is where I really don't measure but I would say that I add about 2 tablespoons of oatmeal and 1 tablespoon of lavender. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Wrap the the cheese clothe strips to achieve the satchel form as shown in photo 4. Wrap a rubber band around the top. You will have lots of excess cheesecloth at the top so I spread it to wrap it a second time around the ball as shown in photos 6 and 7 and wrap another rubber band around on the other end. I double wrap to prevent the flowers and oatmeal from dropping into my bath water as it can get quite messy if it does. Make as many as you like and as big as you like. You can store these in a mason jar or a bowl. You can get really creative and wrap it with jute twine instead of rubber bands for gift giving too.

HOW TO USE:

For each bath, drop a satchel into the water. Let it soak and float as you bathe. Gently squeeze it from time to time to help all the "milky" stuff seep out. Simply throw the satchel away after each bath. Like, share, and comment on your thoughts and experiences with this project! These are good and safe for babies too!!! You don't have to buy the expensive products to calm your baby. Just go natural!!
